Hgh Surge is a human growth hormone releasing supplement in pill form. It comes to us from one of the more respected nutritional supplement manufacturers, Source Naturals.
The fun part of this product is the use of a multifaceted approach to promote increased levels of human growth hormone release. Hgh Surge uses the standard amino acids along with herbs and vitamins that stimulate neurotransmitters.
Oh boy! I usually love vitamins that mess with my neurotransmitters.
The Bio Aligned ingredients are:
Niacin (as inositol nicotinate) 400 mg
Chromium 200 mcg
(as chromium polyniconate & chromium picolinate)
L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate 1g
L-Lysine HCL 750 mg
L-Glutamine 500 mg
Acetyl L-Carnitine 450 mg
Glycine 400 mg
GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) 350 mg
Velvet Bean Standardized Extract 15% 300 mg
Yielding 45 mg L-Dopa
L-Ornithine HCL 250 mg
Ornithine Ketoglutarate 250 mg
L-Citruline 250 mg
DMAE (as bitarate) 100 mg
Ginko Leaf Extract (50:1) 25% Flavoneglycosides 100 mg
5-HTP (L-Hydroxytryptophan) 50 mg
Toothed Clubmoss 5 mg
Standardized Extract 1% Yielding 50 mcg Huperzines A & B
How wonderfully refreshing to find an hgh product that lists all the ingredients in the exact amounts. None of the usual proprietary blend BS. Of course this product comes from a company that would be tough to compete with when it comes down to distribution and price.
Hgh Surge contains just enough amino acids to start the process going. Leaning mostly on the combination of arginine pyroglutamate and lysine. Enough aminos for anti-aging but the bodybuilding crowd will probably want to supplement it with increased amino acid dosages.
The biggest draw back is that these are large tablets. So if you have a problem swallowing pills, this is not the product for you.
The real fun is the part where they mess with your brain chemistry. Designed to have a mood enhancing and mental clarity effect by boosting levels of dopamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine for starters. Good stuff that also stimulates natural growth hormone release.
However, this is not a product to take if you are on prescription drugs for mood enhancement or taking MAO inhibitors. Tread carefully or talk to a integrative medicine trained physician.
Also the brain chemistry change can make for more active dreaming. This can be both good and bad depending on what you have going on inside your head.
Our private group of guinea pigs have been experimenting with this product for a couple of months. Some people really liked it and some preferred to have less of a brain stimulus. Nobody hated it.
Being a bit hardcore and experienced, I started with the maximum dosage of five tablets. I would recommend that most people start out with one tablet and increase the dosage by one tablet per day.
Nothing dangerous here. All people tend to react differently to changes in brain neurotransmitter levels and we always like to error on the side of caution.
Source Natural describes the product as a growth hormone enhancer for youthful vitality and it is that. It is probably not the product for the weight lifting group though it can be a nice addition to a primarily amino acid product regime.
The supplement’s grade blends the needs of both groups. As just an age management product it would rate higher and used as a sports supplement it would rate lower.
That is right, we usually mention cost. The suggested retail price is $36.50 for the 150 tablet bottle. There are options to buy it with only 50 or 100 tablets per bottle so be careful when doing price comparisons.
We found the 150 capsule bottle was easily available discounted to under $20 making this a very high value option.
HGH Surge receives an hgh supplement review rating of B.

The more I read your site, the more entertained and informed I become. Thank you.
I like most of the ingredients and ratios of HGH Surge because it contains a lot of what I seek. However, the RDA’s that I’ve seen are so much higher that what this and most other products contain. You’ve said that manufacturers omit effective amounts to save $$ and they end up doing no good. So, instead of supplementing HGH Surge with different ingredients to get better results, I’m interested in creating my own hgh stack.
Clearly it’s not an exact science and dosages for individuals will vary. I’m creating what I think is a good stack, but I’d appreciate your advice and opinions (and a preemptive thanks for indulging the shear volume and overlapping of my questions):
L-arginine, among others, may be more effective taken morning AND evening. But you’ve suggested when starting out, stick to just once a day, evenings on an empty stomach. How do you know when to incorporate extra doses? Do you just feel it? You’ve said yourself that you’ve tried dozens of combinations.
On that note, I put together a stack just for the morning which has less amino acids, more of the energy and cognitive boosters. At some point, though, would you advise adding the aminos or just stick with a bedtime dose for best hgh release?
L-arginine pyroglutamate seems to be more effective than arginine, particularly when combined with L-lysine. While RDA’s for arginine are 4-10 g, for APG it seems lower. The combo products typically recommend 1500 mg APG and 750 mg lysine. Twice as much APG, like HGH Surge has. Dr. Giampapa recommends that too, but he suggests 2 g arginine and 1 g lysine. On the other hand, csmngt.com has a formula with equal amounts at 3 g. What’s your opinion? How much bearing do RDA’s have when starting out? It’s been suggested to start at 25% of your target and increase over the next few days. If so, would that be among all of the ingredients equally?
Regarding ratios, you’ve said “The ratio can make a big difference. Different amino acids require different dosages and some combinations can interfere with each other. Also a gh stack really needs to have at least one of the amino acids to be at or near the minimum amount required if that amino acid was used alone.” Could you please elaborate?
I have about 14 ingredients in my proposed stack. How can you tell which amounts to adjust to be more effective? Is it like you said, just play around with ‘em? Or would you advise starting with just a few things and eventually add ingredients once you know the effects of different ones?
You mentioned that in the past you added 2 g of ornithine to a product, 3 times a week. Why wouldn’t you include it in the entire cycle, which I assume is 5 days on and 2 days off? Also, HGH Surge has L-ornithine hcl and OKG, 250 mg each. Is it more effective to combine them? Or, as you’ve said, OKG is better than ornithine AND glutamine. So, would you substitute OKG for both, or either?
Niacin. You liked a 5 to 1 ratio to arginine, starting with 500 mg arginine and 100 mg niacin, increasing up to 4 times the amount (as in above, start off at 25% of target). Also, to be taken at bedtime, whereas you suggested taking them together before a workout. Additionally, I’ve seen niacin RDA’s as high as 1 to 3 g and as low as 100 mg or less. What are your thoughts?
I wondered about the COMBINATIONS of different ingredients like niacin and arginine, or APG and l-lysine. My bedtime stack contains nothing, so far, that I have in my morning stack, which, for example, has alpha lipoic acid and acetyl-l-carnitine. Would those and/or other anti-oxidants be better served in combination with other aminos or ingredients?
I never noticed any benefit from taking creatine. How do you feel about it? Would it be a benefit in combination with hgh, or would it just get lost in the shuffle, or might I still not notice any benefit from it like before?
I’ve seen alpha-lipoic acid sold in R-ALA form, twice as potent as (synthetic) S-ALA, according to raysahelian.com. There are so many brands and products out there. What sorts of things like this, one product with different formulations, other than continuing research, should I look for in finding the best quality ingredients to make my own stack?
Quite simply, the label directions would probably be the best guideline. How far from those would you ever really venture, if some published research indicates higher RDA’s?
There’s an overwhelming number of choices online to purchase these things. You’ve suggested Vitamin Shoppe and Vitacost as good online retailers. (They’re great. Thanks.) What brands do you recommend in regard to ingredients like those found in HGH Surge and Secretagogue Gold (my next choice)? Do you normally stick with a common brand like Source Naturals, or do you mix it up among all of the ingredients you use? Do you like combo products like the aforementioned APG & L-lysine or do you prefer to mix it yourself?
Lastly, you talked about your early hgh days, and runs on the beach, which felt like you were floating (man, I miss those days when I lived at the beach and ran in the sand!) Could you talk more about the strong hgh stack in the beginning of a run and another concoction at the end? I realize I need to be patient before I get close to that point but I’m still interested in your experiences with it.
Thank you very much for your answers to a lot of questions. I’m anxious to start but I won’t start until I’m informed and comfortable. And thanks again for your website and all the work that you put into it.

Glenn,
Sorry, but I just do not have the time at the moment to cover all your questions. we will be cover most of this in a series of future posts.
Just want to cover a few points.
RDA stands for recommended daily allowance. The government has specific amounts for a whole lists of vitamins. Amino acids do not have actual RDA’s. Your actually talking about different people’s suggested dosages.
One of the main amino problems is that Arginine and lysine compete for the same receptor sites. Arginine Pyroglutamate and Lysine do not.
Ray Sahelian was more interesting and had more credibility back when he was not selling supplements.
I stick with brands that i know and respect.
Start with a stack of one ingredient. Play with the dosages and see how you feel/react. Then start doing a second ingredient the same way. Then try the two together. Play around until you come up with a mix you like.

I am suject to random drug testing for opiates, amphetamines, thc, etc. Could any of the ingredients in HGH Surge, Secretagogue, or Life Renewel result in a positive or false positive result? When I see comments on brain chemistry it gets my attention. Thanks

There is nothing in there that should test as a controlled substance. Your best bet is to check with the people who do the testing. The best defense is a good offense.

I am 53, post-menapausal, fitness instructor for 25 years, finally having to slow down, gaining weight, not being able to fall asleep, moody and hating life. Which is best for weight-loss and these symptoms? what good supplement would you add as well?

Hgh Surge and Secretagogue Gold are both good products. It is a matter of individual preference. As we talk about above, some people might not like the brain chemistry approach.
I believe the green superfoods are always a good addition.

i’ve been looking at this product and hgh1000, since seeing your review i’m thinking twice about hgh1000 and leaning towards this, i just turned 3o, and i’ve had a high metabolism been able to eat what ever i want, when ever i want and stay thin, though over the last year or so i’ve started to notice some love handles and a bit of a stomach, which can be expected i guess when you get older, will this product help me lose a couple lbs? i dont have a lot of time to excercise since working 50 hours a week and going to back to school during weekends and evenings, right now i’m about 5′10.5 and 155ish lbs, would like to just lose the extra weight that’s starting to show in my stomach, will this help me or can you recommend something, obviously starting to exercise will help, but will any hgh supplement help me too?

Hgh supplements are not really “weightloss” products.
At 30 you are just into the entry level age for these products.
If you are worried about the love handles thing just find some time for high aerobic exercise and manage the diet a little bit. You will be fine.

Can I safely take any of these HGH products while pregnant?
10 admin // Jun 30, 2008 at 10:43 am
None of these products are recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing.
Try spirulina or chlorella. The are generally accepted to give safe benefits to both the mother and baby.
Give the hgh a shot in about a year.
