Good for Sylvester Stallone. Rather than be bulldogged by the media frenzy and get defensive, he stood up for his opinion and rights. My opinion of him has gone up.
Now some of his facts were a little simplistic. Of course so is the Today Show. Matt Lauer is no Mike Wallace. The important part is that the general tone of what he was saying is true.
See the way today’s news media works is that very few people do any original research.
A story gets published somewhere, it gets picked up by the wire services, and everyone else pretty much just reports what the wire service said. Sometimes a little extra will be added so a reporter can get a byline.
By the time it reaches the talking heads on the TV news it is just a bunch of distilled fluff with frequent inaccuracies. These errors start becoming facts when enough people have repeated them without their integrity being questioned.
An example is the phrase “the steroid human growth hormone”. I never heard that phrase until just recently. Why, because somebody just invented it. They probably heard hgh used in the same conversation as the word steroid and made a false assumption.
Somehow it got into a news report. Several mindless talking heads later, the phrase starts getting used in everyday conversation. A friend used it at lunch yesterday.
The truth is that human growth hormone is not a steroid. Anabolic steroids are manufactured substances that act in the body similar to male hormones. Pharmaceutical hgh is an actual replica of the naturally produced hormone.
Sly, keep standing up for your rights. You are a 61 year old adult. I’ll bet you have even consulted with your doctor be for choosing to use human growth hormone.
Now I am just waiting for the anti-aging medical establishment to make themselves heard before Congress and the FDA act rashly.
Go Rambo!!!
