What are Secretagogues

August 16th, 2008 · 12 Comments

We throw around the word secretagogue a lot and keep getting request to explain what we are talking about. (OK, the correct word is really complaints.) So exactly what is a secretagogue?

By definition a secretagogue is any substance which causes another substance to be secreted.

That really tells us a lot. So to put it plainly, with regards to human growth hormone, a secretagogue is any substance that causes the anterior pituitary to release more growth hormone.

Drug companies have been putting years of research into coming up with something to replace the need for injections and avoids any hgh side effects. So far they have come up with three possibilities. Geref, MK0577, and GHRP 6.

“Sounds great. Where can I get some?”

The problem is that MK0577 and GHRP 6 are only in the research stage and not approved for use by the FDA. You cannot purchase either one though there are antidotes of bootleg GHRP 6 being available on the black market.

Only Geref from Serno Laboratories has FDA approval for prescription for treatment of idiopathic growth hormone deficiency in children with growth failure. The first problem here is that this is also an injectable like pharmaceutical hgh and costs even more to buy. The second problem is that Serono has announced that Geref Diagnostic (sermorelin acetate for injection) will no longer be available beginning October 2008 because the active ingredient is no longer being manufactured.

So where does that leave those of us that want to use secretagogues. Well we still have the secretagogues that we have been referring to in our articles and reviews. We can still use those substances that serve as natural releasers of hgh.

We have available to us the hgh supplements that have been being reviewed on this site. These supplements make use of various amino acids, herbs and vitamins that separately or in combination stimulate the body to produce more growth hormone naturally. In some cases they work as precursors by causing the body to create chemicals that then stimulate hgh release.

Hopefully that answers people questions about secretagogues. We thought that by the time people finally found this site they would already have a good background in basic hgh information. Seems that we were wrong.

So this is the first post in the new hgh facts category. There will be posts coming that cover all the basic starter questions about human growth hormone.

I know that if something is not said there will be a lot of questions such as “Ya, but what are all the natural secretagogues? How do you use them and in what amounts? How do I combine them together?”

Don’t worry. We will be covering each of the different amino acids, herbs, and vitamins in full detail. We will then talk about how they can be stacked together to form your own custom blends. We will also discuss how to combine different products together and make it easy for those who don’t want to go the custom formulation route.

An ambitious task indeed. However, we feel that you need all this information to both understand our reviews better and to protect your wallet from the scam marketers. Seems they can create new products faster than we can review them.

So that is it about hgh secretagogues for today. Next for this category will be the much delayed basic post about what is hgh anyway.

The information I received here helped me a whole lot. I had thought that the product longevity is the best hgh product until I read your reviews. The longevity had always made me more tired and sleepy after taking it, but now that I tried the secretagogue gold, I can now believe that supplements really work. Can you do reviews on anti wrinkle creams as that is another area they are ripping us off on. You can hardly find one that works and I have been trying one afte the other. Your site is the only site that reviews product objectivedly and unbiased with no product to sell. Thanks again for the good work

    Temi,

    Glad we could help.

We are looking for someone who can give good advice on the ingredient reactions of cosmetics.

One highly knowledgeable person I talked to tells all her clients to by Regenerist. She really ripped into most products as being too much hype and over priced.

I am attempting to convince her to do a guest post on the subject.

I’m 25 and curious if HGH will help in gaining muscle mass. Research that I’ve read suggests that HGH does nothing to increase muscle or athletic ability UNLESS it is taken with a testosterone supplement. It also suggests that testosterone supplements alone do nothing, but the combination of both will achieve desired results. Have you heard about this and what is your opinion on it? Is it safe? You say HGH is ineffective for people under 30 so is it a waste? And finally would the same result be achieved with HGH Secretagogues and a testosterone supplement compared with an HGH injection? Thanks

    Sean,

Hgh is not really about muscle mass or increasing athletic ability in people under the age of 30. So while not a waste the benefits are marginal. Males in the first stage of hormone decline actually have an easier time adding mass naturally. This is one of the reasons you see a lot of athletes hit their peak in their late 20’s to early 30’s.

People in their 40’s and 50’s can see great results in strength and athletic performance because they are in a much different state of hormone decline.

At 25, you will get more results from a good protein supplement and a strong work ethic than you will with supplements. The whole sports supplement thing is way over blown.

The only thing that is really going to the do the trick is injections of steroids and hgh. We are not going to open that Pandora’s box here.

Hi Chris, just checking on the side effects in taking HGH. I am 41. I have been taking Secretagogue Gold for 6 weeks with impressive results, mainly more Energy, better skin, hair growing faster… I take it 5 days and stop 2 days. I have now pain in my stomack and my digestion isn’t good. I go to the toilet at lease 3 times more often than before. I decided to stop taking HGH and now after 4 days I am feeling good. Do you think there is an ingredient in the product that would cause the pain? Do you think if I cut the quantity I take by half I may fix the problem?
I like the results I got and need your help so I can take HGH again.
    Thanks,

    Angela

    Angela,

I just don’t know exactly what to say. Secretagogue Gold actually has one of the tamest ingredient mixes as could regard stomach problems.

I would start with 1/4 dosage and then gently increase. See if you can find an amount or cycle time that works for you.

If after a few rounds of experimentation with amounts and cycle times the problem continues to appear, quit.

Then try a different product. There just might be an ingredient in Secretagogue Gold that does not work for you.
